| Souvia® Tea was established in April of 2004. OUR MISSION: At Souvia® Tea, our goal is to educate the customer on the quality and benefits of tea and to nurture the appreciation for a beverage that is greatly enjoyed throughout the world. Souvia® Tea offers a wide selection of premium loose leaf teas and tisanes from the best tea estates in the world as well as the essentials to complete your tea experience. Where did Souvia® come from? The idea for the tea shop was born in the Spring of 1994 on a two hour hike that lasted six hours while we were a bit lost in the Maverick Mountains south of Prescott, Arizona with our black lab Hagrid. Even with a GPS, a simple wrong turn on a jeep trail led us on an arduous path up and down a series of ridge lines . During the hike Kerstin hashed out her concept for the stores. Bret did the mental math on what it would take to get up and going and we both debated the various aspects of the store. We finally ended up back in a small café where we hashed out an approach over dinner. We began incrementally building the business model and visited tea rooms and retail establishments in Germany, Austria, China and Japan for inspiration. The first store opened on January 7, 2006 in Phoenix, Arizona. The original name of our concept was actually taken by another firm before we got around to trademarking it. While that was a hard lesson to learn, it led us to the name Souvia®. "Sou" is from the word soul reflecting our belief that tea and the traditions surrounding it are good for one's soul. "Via" is the last part of Kerstin's middle name. When put together it represents her vision for the concept of Souvia®, or the soul of Olivia. "Via" is also the Latin root for "the way" which is also fitting for tea! |
